Bioeconomy Week Scotland, the first of its kind to be held anywhere in the UK, ran from 3-7 October 2022.
The bioeconomy is an economy where the basic building blocks for materials, chemicals, and energy are derived from biological resources. Crucially, the bioeconomy offers opportunities to address climate change challenges, while also achieving economic growth.
Scotland is a go-to destination to incubate and grow bioeconomy businesses to scale. The Scottish Government’s National Strategy for Economic Transformation highlights industrial biotechnology as a “key sector for decarbonisation and the transition to net zero, with opportunities for Scotland to become a world leader”.
What is Bioeconomy Week?
Bioeconomy week showcased Scotland as the location for investing in the emerging biotechnology industry, an education destination for those seeking to study and work in the sector, and a base for accessing world class biotechnology research.
Throughout the week, organisations involved in the Bioeconomy will host events and activities including workshops, MSP visits, webinars and launches to raise the profile of this important element of Scotland’s economy and its contribution to sustainability and Net Zero goals.
