Online Q&A - MSc Algal Biotech & Bioeconomy 2023 - SAMS

Join course leader Dr Matt Davey and learn more about the UK's new Algal Biotech & Bioeconomy masters and applying for Sept 2023.

About this event

Algal Biotechnology is a rapidly expanding discipline that seeks to understand and harness the resources from some of the most diverse groups of organisms on the planet. Algae are key to human life on earth, producing much of the oxygen that we breathe and underpin the base of freshwater and marine food chains. Furthermore, algae and their natural products have a huge range of current and potential applications for humans.

The Scottish Association of Marine Science, a partner of UHI, based in Oban, has launched a new Masters Degree in Algal Biotechnology, the first of its kind in the UK, in a bid to plug a skills gap in this rapidly growing industry.

In this online session, Senior Lecturer in Algal Biotechnology and course leader Dr Matt Davey and Education Postgraduate Administrator Helen Bury help answer questions put forward by prospective students who are interested applying to the Sept 2023 programme and who are keen to build a career in Algal Biotechnology. As well as take questions, Matt will also give some insight into the course from what you will learn to what this could lead to in the future.

Two Scholarships with Sustainable Aquaculture Innovation Centre (SAIC) for Students with Scottish residency are also available.
