Kelly Stewart

Kelly joined the IBioIC scale-up team in January 2020 and is responsible for delivering the downstream processing projects within FlexBio

Kelly gained her degree in Biological Sciences (Plant Science Hons.) from the University of Edinburgh. Her PhD, also from the University of Edinburgh, involved developing new control measures for crop diseases using sustainable by-products from industry. 

​Kelly then continued her research in the area of molecular plant sciences and systems biology.  Over the past 5 years she has specialised in downstream bioprocessing at Heriot-Watt University working on collaborative projects with companies ranging from start-ups to large multinationals. She is especially interested in the valorisation of industry by-products related to the bioeconomy and has experience of working with a very varied range of materials and techniques.
