About the Role

GCS is seeking a Senior Scientist to lead critical research and development efforts in VLP design, expression, and purification. This role requires a cross-functional skill set, strong technical expertise, and a team-player mentality. The successful candidate will oversee protein expression and purification workflows while supporting junior team members and ensuring scientific excellence in a milestone-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Optimise VLP expression in bacterial, insect, and mammalian systems

  • Develop purification methodologies using IMAC, IEC, SEC, IEX, and HIC chromatography

  • Perform buffer optimization using TFF methods

  • Assess formulation and stability of in-house samples

  • Supervise and train junior scientists

  • Stay up to date with emerging technologies and scientific literature

  • Maintain accurate records and detailed ELN documentation

  • Prepare reports, presentations, and communicate findings to the team

  • Work effectively under milestone-driven timelines

Qualifications & Experience

  • Ph.D. + 5 years industry experience in protein production (or equivalent)

  • Expertise in bacterial, insect, and mammalian culture optimization for protein expression

  • Experience with AKTA chromatography method development

  • Knowledge of VLP expression and purification techniques (desirable)

  • Understanding of process development for vaccine production (desirable)

  • Previous experience managing junior team members (desirable)

  • Industry experience in biotech or pharmaceutical settings (desirable)
