The Nagoya Protocol on Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS) supplements the Convention on Biological Diversity’s third objective on the fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from the utilisation (research and development on the genetic or biochemical properties) of genetic resources (plants, animals, microbes and other). Those planning to utilise genetic resources from overseas may need to acquire permission, as well as negotiate terms of use and benefit sharing agreements with the providing country, prior to access. The legislation is relevant to those conducting research and development on the genetic or biochemical composition of genetic resources that may have potential for future product development.

This webinar will cover an introduction to the Nagoya Protocol and the legislation in force in the UK, as well case studies focussing on academic research conducted in the UK involving genetic resources. We also invite attendees to submit specific questions or topics that they would like to see covered in advance of the webinar, through the registration page.
