The CHEMUK 2023 EXPO will return this 10th & 11th May to the NEC, Birmingham. CHEMUK 2023 continues to grow with over four hundred and twenty exhibitors confirmed for this year’s event.
CHEMUK brings together the entire chemical industry, with the exhibition floor split into three focused zones: The Laboratory & Innovation Zone; The Chemical, Process & Plant Engineering Zone; and The Chemical Industries Supply Chain Zone.

Dr. Liz Fletcher
Director of Business Engagement and Operations, Industrial Biotechnology Innovation Centre (IBiolC)
Liz manages the day-to-day operational aspects of IBioIC, helping the Centre deliver its key aims of building new opportunities and accelerating commercialisation in industrial biotechnology. She has had a varied career across the life sciences and biotechnology sectors from research roles in academia and industry, as a science business writer and editor, in technology transfer, economic development and research management.
Dr. Beatriz Domínguez
Technical Manager – Biotechnology, Johnson Matthey
Beatriz Domínguez gained her PhD in Synthetic Organic Chemistry from the University of Vigo, Spain and then moved to the UK where she worked with Prof. Tom Brown at the University of Southampton and with Prof. Guy Lloyd-Jones at the University of Bristol. In 2002 she joined Synetix, soon to become Johnson Matthey, and has worked at the company’s facilities in Cambridge since.
For the last twenty five years Beatriz has gained broad experience in the field of catalysis, ranging from the use of PGMs, particularly hydrogenation and cross-coupling, all the way to biocatalysis, working closely with Fine Chemical companies to deliver optimal catalytic processes. Beatriz is currently Technical Manager for Biotechnology at Johnson Matthey.
Dr Simon Grant
Project Manager at Thomas Swan & Co. Ltd
Simon gained his BSc in Applied Chemistry (Brunel University) and MSc in New Polymer Synthesis (University of Lancaster) before studying for a PhD at University of Warwick.
After his PhD Simon joined BP Chemicals in Hull in 1991 where his roles included Process Development, Speciality Chemical manufacture and Technical Service.
After 5 years, Simon joined Victrex Manufacturing Ltd. as Process Improvement Chemist. Simon’s career progression resulted in him leading R & D Process Development and support activities at three Victrex sites (Rotherham, Seal Sands and Hillhouse). In 2007, Simon completed a part time two year Executive MBA at Lancaster University.
Simon joined Thomas Swan & Co. Ltd. in 2013 where he leads Research and Development for Performance Chemicals, Custom Manufacture and Green Feather Innovations business divisions. His focus is to develop R & D capabilities to support strategic commercial and sustainability goals. Simon is the lead contact for external academic collaborations, as part of Thomas Swan’s open innovation strategy.
As Sustainability Project Manager, Simon co-ordinates Sustainability related activities at Consett and he sits on the Sustainability Steering Group of the CIA where he inputs an SME’s perspective to the Group.
Simon’s 30+ year career in Chemical manufacturing has been recognised by the award of Honorary Professor of Chemistry by University of Nottingham.
Jim Woodger
Managing Director, Lanzatech UK Ltd
Jim Woodger is the Managing Director of LanzaTech UK, part of LanzaTech Inc headquartered in Chicago, USA. In this role, Jim is leading a growing UK team focused on driving forward numerous internal and customer projects based on LanzaTech’s Gas Fermentation and LanzaJet’s Alcohol-To-Jet technologies. Jim also engages on government policy to support these decarbonization technologies and is a member of various Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) industry bodies such as the Jet Zero Council, Sustainable Aviation, and the Road Transport Fuels Association. In addition, LanzaTech UK is a member of the South Wales Industrial Cluster (SWIC) and is exploring a number of carbon transformation projects in the UK, EU and across the world.
In terms of his wider career, Jim is an environmental chemical engineer, who enjoyed a 13-year career with Honeywell-UOP, in a number of technical roles in Oil & Gas including R&D, Manufacturing, Engineering and Commissioning. In 2007, he was a founding member of UOP’s Renewable Energy & Chemicals business unit that commercialized the UOP HEFA Green Jet & Green Diesel technology. In 2012, Jim joined Solazyme (later acquired by Corbion) in California to undertake business development activities for sustainable products made from algae. Ultimately, Jim was responsible for the global growth of Corbion Algae Ingredients into animal feed, oil & gas, and personal care.
Tony Heslop
Senior Sustainability Manager, BASF PLC
Tony Heslop is Senior Sustainability Manager for BASF in the UK and Ireland. He is a Polymer Chemist by training and has worked in the chemical industry all his working life. His current role involves helping to support colleagues, customers, and other stakeholders to understand sustainability trends and drivers and find solutions to their problems. This is done by bringing an expert insight into the corporate sustainability strategy of BASF, the world’s biggest chemical company.
