LOCATION 

Dundee is a growing Biotech centre in a fantastic setting; multiple beaches are within easy reach, there are a multitude of child-care providers and it is in the catchment areas of nationally top-performing independent and state schools. Dundee is a large university centre with a multi-cultural scene and vibrant night life, an award-winning theatre playhouse and a variety of museums. Transport and connections are excellent: the stunning Scottish Highlands can be reached in 45 minutes, the cultural buzz and global airport connectivity of Edinburgh is 1h by train in addition to direct rail links to Glasgow (90 minutes) and Aberdeen (60 minutes). 

JOB DESCRIPTION 

The role of Business Development Associate is a perfect opportunity for a candidate to employ their scientific skills and training in a more commercial role. Working closely with the CEO and senior leadership team, the incumbent will identify and analyse business opportunities, monitor and support B2B licensing activities and take day to day responsibility for corporate communications and ensure all external material reflects corporate strategies. 

The successful candidate will have gained industry experience in a drug or medical device development environment and have a working knowledge of the biotechnology landscape. The successful candidate will be qualified to at least a Masters’ level in a biological science, have excellent project management skills, with preferably some exposure to technology licensing activities within either a pharmaceutical or biotech company or a university technology transfer unit. 

The successful candidate will have strong analytical skills and an understanding of corporate marketing and technology licensing. Good planning, budgeting, project management and written reporting skills are essential. 

Key activities will include: 

  • Overall responsibility for all aspects of corporate communications 

  • With CEO devise, plan and monitor business development activities 

  • Establish and manage CRMs and market databases 

  • Contribute to business development and financing activities in support of CEO and CSO 

  • Assist in preparation of reports and licensing agreements 

  • Work closely with other functional areas and colleagues to ensure that all activities are aligned with operational priorities 

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS 

  • A minimum of 2 years of industry experience with either a pharma or biotech company or university technology transfer team 

  • Masters in a biological science 

  • Commercial acumen and interest 

  • Hands-on experience of pharmaceutical or diagnostic market analysis 

  • An ability to formulate and implement communication strategies 

  • Experience of CRMs 

  • Eager to work in a dynamic, small company environment and establish key operational processes 

  • Experience and appetite to contribute to building a sector winning team 

  • Analytical mindset and excellent documentation skills 

  • Excellent communication skills – written and oral 

  • Fluency in spoken and written English is required
