The UK-Kenya Alternative Proteins Network is a new initiative led by the Global Alliance Africa Project team at Innovate UK based in Kenya. The network will bring together innovators, entrepreneurs, and investors from the UK and Kenya to support the development of sustainable alternative protein products and services. The network will focus on three communities: Insects for food, Sustainable Algae, and Fermentation but launch with the first 2 pillars. These communities will provide a platform for members to share knowledge, collaborate on projects, and access funding and support opportunities.
Establishing an Alternative Proteins Innovation Network between the UK and Kenya arises from the need to address such challenges and seize innovation opportunities at the intersection of nutrition, sustainability, and economic development.
Join Innovate UK KTN at the UK-Kenya Alternative Proteins Innovation Network launch event on 16 of November 2023 to find out how you can get involved in potential partnership(s) that not only advance nutrition and sustainability but also generate economic prospects for Kenya and the UK. Through knowledge-sharing and collaborative efforts, we are poised to drive the growth of alternative protein solutions that resonate with consumers, boost economies, and contribute to a more resilient food future.
Key objectives of the network
To facilitate innovation knowledge-sharing and collaboration among diverse stakeholders to enhance food security and nutrition. By focusing on alternative proteins, we aim to identify innovative approaches and solutions that can contribute to sustainable and resilient food systems.
The network will be a collaborative and inclusive space where members can learn from each other, solve problems, and create new opportunities.
We will be holding the launch event online on 16 November 2023, 12pm – 2:30pm (Kenya Time), featuring a panel with industry leaders from Kenya and the UK, breakout rooms for action point formulation on the 2 sectors, with Q&A after and networking opportunities.
