Course Schedule: Full schedule

Are you ready to deepen your knowledge of upstream bio-manufacturing processes? Our 3-Day Certificate of Upstream Bioprocessing course is designed to provide early-career professionals and anyone seeking a comprehensive understanding of upstream bio-manufacturing with both theoretical insights and hands-on experience.

About the Course
This interactive course includes six detailed lectures, paired with practical demonstrations using bench-scale, pilot-scale, and single-use bioreactors. Participants will engage directly in a 30L yeast fermentation process, gaining hands-on experience with a stainless steel stirred tank bioreactor. You’ll cover everything from set-up and steam sterilisation in place (SIP) to inoculation, monitoring, and harvest. Upon successful completion, attendees will receive a Certificate of Upstream Bioprocessing issued by IBioIC.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Obtain a modern overview of microbial cell cultivation techniques.

  • Understand the challenges and key considerations in scaling up upstream bioprocesses.

  • Gain familiarity with different cell types, fermentation modes, and bioreactor systems.

  • Master critical processes such as sterilisation, monitoring, and quality control.

  • Develop hands-on fermentation skills with a 30L stainless steel bioreactor.

  • Learn and apply aseptic techniques, sampling methods, and biomass quantification.

Who Should Attend?
This course is ideal for scientists, engineers, graduates, technical managers, and operators, particularly those in the early stages of their careers in fermentation or upstream bioprocessing. It's also perfect for anyone looking to gain deeper insights into the theoretical and practical aspects of bio-manufacturing.

Spaces are limited to ensure personalised, hands-on learning. Lunch and refreshments are provided throughout the course.
