HUID wins a Young Innovator’s Award 2022/2023
HUID is proud to be a winner of the 2022/2023 Young Innovators Award, running from December 2022 – 2023. Bolstered by Innovate UK, the award supports young people between 18 and 30 with business ideas that show great potential for innovation and successful entrepreneurship. HUID joins 96 other brilliant businesses on the cohort, supported by a year long package of a 5,000 pound grant, an annual living allowance and tailored business support including mentorship and networking opportunities.
Led by Renuka Ramanujam, HUID is currently in R&D developing food packaging from allium-waste – an incredibly abundant and ubiquitous raw material - in a bid to reduce the impacts of both single-use plastic and food waste on a truly scalable level. With the support of the Young Innovator’s grant, HUID intends to refine the 3D moulding process of its material, alongside its current operations of conducting further testing of the mechanical and biological properties of its material through existing collaborations with the Advanced Material Research Laboratory at the University of Strathclyde and the University of Northumbria.
HUID has also previously won a Scottish Edge Award, winning one of ten packages in Round 19’s Young Edge category.
