Josephine Giard

Josephine joined the IBioIC team in September 2019 after graduating from the University of Strathclyde with a Distinction in Industrial Biotechnology. Prior to her Master’s studies, Josephine obtained a Bachelor’s degree at the University of Bielefeld in Germany. Throughout her studies in Glasgow and Bielefeld, Josephine not only learned about the theoretical background of the different natural sciences, but she also gained valuable practical experience by undertaking a variety of laboratory projects, e.g. fermentation of Streptomyces and Penicillium species or the production of recombinant proteins.

Since joining the Rapid Bioprocessing Prototyping Centre at IBioIC, Josephine has been involved in the performance of numerous fermentation processes. In addition, she is also responsible for the maintenance of the laboratory and for instructing new colleagues with less hands-on experience.

Most of her free time, Josephine spends playing football for the women’s team of Celtic F.C. which she joined at the beginning of 2018 after having received an offer of contract. Since then she became a valuable member of her new team and contributed to the club’s success with many goals.
