This is an exciting new opportunity to lead the strategic development and delivery of our Health and Wellbeing Foresight and Opportunity Plan.

You'll work closely with industry and stakeholders to set out clear propositions and achieve key actions across Scottish regions.

You'll help to lever Scotland’s competitive advantage in response to global market opportunities and facilitate significant economic and social benefits to articulate national opportunities in health and wellbeing.

Key responsibilities

  • To lead strategic engagement on our approach on health and wellbeing opportunities, engaging at a senior level with industry and government to deliver a measurable plan to deliver inclusive growth and competitive advantage
  • To lead our understanding of future opportunities through foresighting, insights and funding opportunities
  • To develop a plan for us that identifies transformational investments and how this will be connected into Scotland’s company base
  • To lead on setting the direction and priorities in support of this plan across all our activities, providing clarity on outcomes sought and co-ordinate progress
  • To identify a clear role for health and wellbeing opportunities to Scotland. This involves continuing development of collaborative programmes for delivery of innovation and commercialisation with Scottish and UK agencies.
  • To set direction and priorities in support of our activities, securing the commitment of other strategic partnerships in the public and private sector
  • To lead our response to supply chain development to increase the capability and capacity to respond to global opportunities
  • To ensure regular communication and engagement with leadership colleagues for key areas of activity
  • To update and influence the Executive Leadership Team, SE Board and other bodies on critical issues, opportunities and risks
  • To establish and maintain close collaborative working with partners such as Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Scottish Government, and Skills Development Scotland, as well as with relevant industry groups to deliver the best outcome and to maximise investment
  • To build and maintain strong, effective and influential relationships with key stakeholders, industry leaders and companies of strategic importance to communicate and promote activity and to establish priority areas for industry growth
  • To provide and showcase inspirational and resonant leadership to optimise input and outcomes achieved from within SE and from partners


Essential skills, abilities and experience

  • An ability to operate in situations that require adaption or development of new solutions to issues that arise - through constructive, creative and innovative thinking
  • An ability to develop and maintain effective team working, creating a supportive and open environment where staff generate a pipeline and implement new ideas
  • Experience of leadership at a functional level with a proven track record of managing, motivating, and delivering key business objectives via complex teams
  • Extensive knowledge of the health and wellbeing sector and Scotland’s strengths in areas such as precision medicine and digital health
  • Evidence of excellence in ability to communicate at all levels – negotiating, persuading and influencing particularly at senior levels through logical reasoning
  • Evidence of developing and implementing strategy and to build strong and productive relationships with senior figures in the public, private and political environments
  • Track record of delivering strategic projects through identification of major opportunities and leading their effective implementation across the organisation
  • Sound understanding of our objectives and the ability to input into the wider direction of the company including our transformation
  • A thorough understanding of establishing economic development opportunities
  • Proven experience of analysing complex situations to make sound judgements and recommendations often under pressure or with incomplete information available
  • Demonstrable ability to take a creative and innovative approach to staying ahead of the competition
