Oceanium is a bio-tech, social impact start-up focused on developing sustainable packaging from bio- materials. Based in Oban Scotland with an office in London, Oceanium is seeking an experienced Packaging Materials Consultant in the area of fiber-based materials, plastics, inks, and coatings to provide input and expertise during the R & D, pilot phase with potential to transition to full-time management position.

The Packaging Materials Engineer Consultant will contribute to the research, development, and design of new bio- materials. You will provide technical support to Oceanium Executive Team, engage in hands-on project-based work, including sourcing of materials and strategize regarding processor/manufacturering processes/partners.

You will be fluent in material structure/properties, testing, and characterization, and leverage advanced knowledge of material and manufacturing processes. Key Qualifications
• 5+ years of experience in Materials Engineering and/or Packaging field
• Experience managing the materials development process
• New technology/material scoping, including evaluation of supplier capabilities
• In-depth understanding of material structure and property/performance relationship
• Strong background in characterizing and specifying materials and performance in quantitative terms
• Experience developing materials for high volume manufacturing
• Proven track record in peer collaboration and partnerships; willingness to solicit input and accept feedback
• Working both independently and collaboratively
• Strong attention to detail and resolution to tackle complex problems

Responsibilities and activities for this position include the following: • 
Establish and manage relationships with manufacturers/suppliers to progress take up of our emerging technologies.
Collaborate with suppliers, processors, manufacturers and end users to meet specific needs and challenges. Work alongside CTO to develop impactful environmentally-responsible material solutions.
Collaborate with partner industries and companies to explore usage of manufacturing by-products and waste streams
Collaborate with product design and manufacturing operations partners on material selection, design feasibility and manufacturing process development •
Visit factories to fully understand their technical capabilities, quality requirements and resolve difficult production-related issues
Evaluate and develop supply chain, establish operations.

Education & Experience
• Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer/Materials Science or related fields
