There is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced scientist to work for an innovative, world leading industrial biotechnology company based just outside Edinburgh. The candidate must be self-motivated, enthusiastic and passionate about science.

It is essential the candidate demonstrates evidence of interdisciplinary team skills and is able to work collaboratively with others to reach project deadlines. The candidate should be flexible and have the ability to multi-task effectively to meet the demands of different work activities. Good communication and presentation skills are essential with a willingness to learn.

The candidate will have:

  • A PhD in Fermentation Biotechnology (or related field) or an equivalent graduate degree with at least 3 years industrial experience.
  • Excellent technical knowledge and practical experience in running, optimising and troubleshooting fermentations.
  • Proven ability to work both independently, and as part of a team.
  • Ability to generate new ideas and deliver innovative approaches to increase workplace productivity.
  • The candidate must be able to multitask extremely well and have excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent organisational skills and a flexible hard working approach are key attributes for this position.
  • Excellent communication skills; both oral and written

Other Desirable Skills (Not Essential) include:

  • Practical fermentation experience in more than one type of microorganism
  • Experience of fermentation scale up
  • Mammalian cell culture experience
  • Experience in using a Quality Management System (SOP’s, RA’s etc)
  • Practical experience or at least a working knowledge of GMP
  • Systematic approaches to experimental design and process optimisation
  • Basic knowledge of molecular biology, and analytical chemistry
  • Ability to articulate technical information to a wider audience
  • Line and project management experience
