Businesses in Scotland are taking significant steps to improve or reduce their impact on the environment, often saving money in the process. The VIBES - Scottish Environment Business Awards are held each year to recognise and showcase best practice.

The VIBES awards aim to encourage the efficient use of resources, enhance the competitiveness of businesses, improve environmental performance and support the wider goals of sustainable development including social benefits through community and staff involvement.

The Hydro Nation Award recognises businesses, partnerships and collaborations that have developed innovative products, practices or services in the area of water treatment and water technology.  The innovation could be a novel way of, for example;

• reducing chemical use or removing priority substances,
• recovering nutrients,
• reducing energy or other operational costs of water use,
• recovering energy or heat from waste water or sewage
• treating waste water
• providing water services to remote communities
The technology can be, but does not have to be, new or high tech. The application can utilise an existing technology and /or modification of an existing technology for a new product or service but there should be an efficiency gain compared to the conventional technology that would be replaced. Entrants’ product(s) may have already been developed and in the marketplace, or may still be in the development stage.

There are a number of launch events being held across Scotland during March and April.

Applications must be submitted between 13 March and 27 April.
